Heather Weber, our lead pastor, was on staff as an associate pastor at LIFEchurch in North Liberty/Coralville for eight years and is an ordained minister. She, her husband and daughters, and a group of friends launched CityChurch in downtown Iowa City in September of 2016, and she's thrilled to be pastoring in this season of brand-new church life. Heather attended the University of Iowa and got her B.A. in English and religion before receiving an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the Rainier Writing Workshop, after which she published Dear Boy,: An Epistolary Memoir. She loves books, long walks, organic vegetables, herbal tinctures, and refinishing furniture in unexpected ways. She's married to Mark, and her favorite parenting activity is reading aloud to her three daughters on winter nights (Narnia, anyone?). She thrives on deep friendships (necessary as water), and she feels she’s in exactly the right place when she's helping others to see God's activity in their lives and in the world around them.
Tony Gatewood, our Associate Pastor, has been in full-time ministry since 2005 in both the local church and para-church organizations. In the para-church world, Tony is a National Scripture Engagement Specialist with InterVarsity/USA. He coaches and trains campus ministers, students, and faculty on how to study the Bible and how to become effective Bible study leaders. Along with a passion for training, Tony has a high passion for scripture innovation: thinking and discovering creative ways people can study the Bible while including their cultural context. Locally, Tony has served in many church capacities across the Iowa corridor, preaching and teaching; working with adults; training lay leadership; and reaching out to youth. Married for 11 years, Tony and Rachel have two children, Julia (9) and Jonathan (5) or "JT." Tony plays the guitar, loves to cook for others, and love playing games.
